Introduction
In the ever-evolving landscape of artificial intelligence, Midjourney V6 Alpha emerges as a beacon of innovation, redefining the realms of digital art and AI technology. This latest version marks a significant leap forward, offering unprecedented realism and creative possibilities. As we embark on this journey, let’s explore the intricate features, practical tips, and the immense potential of Midjourney V6 Alpha, unfolding a new chapter in AI-driven creativity.
Midjourney V6 (Alpha)
An alpha version of the Midjourney V6 model is available for community testing during the winter break, beginning tonight, December 21st, 2023.
You can choose V6 in the dropdown by using /settings command, or add –v 6 to your prompt.
The Midjourney v6 base model features:
- Enhanced Realism and Detail: Midjourney V6 boasts a remarkable ability to capture intricate details and realistic textures, producing imagery that rivals traditional art forms. This improvement stems from the model’s deeper understanding of visual information and its enhanced ability to translate complex prompts into compelling visual representations.
- Improved Prompt Following and Coherence: Midjourney V6 is better at understanding what users ask for. It sticks closely to their instructions and makes images that match what they want creatively. The model also makes sure that images follow a consistent style and look good together.
- Creative Text Generation: A groundbreaking feature of Midjourney V6 is its ability to integrate minor text within generated images, allowing for seamless blending of visual and textual elements. This groundbreaking capability opens up a world of possibilities for storytelling, creative expression, and artistic experimentation. (you must write your text in “quotations” and –style raw or lower –stylize values may help)
- Enhanced Upscaling: Midjourney V6 introduces a new upscaling feature that tackles the challenge of increasing image resolution without compromising detail or introducing artifacts. This enhancement allows users to expand existing images without sacrificing their quality, enabling them to incorporate high-resolution elements into their creative endeavours.
The following features are supported at present:
- –ar,
- –chaos,
- –weird,
- –tile,
- –stylize,
- –style raw ,
- Vary (subtle),
- Vary (strong),
- Remix,
- /blend ,
These features are not yet supported, but should be available in the coming months:
- Pan,
- Zoom,
- Vary (region),
- /tune,
- /describe (a new v6 version)
Prompting with V6
- Using V6 is quite different from V5, so you’ll need to learn new ways to give prompts.
- Midjourney V6 pays more attention to the details of your prompt. We no longer need to use unnecessary words like “award-winning, photorealistic, 4k, 8k.”
- It’s best to be clear about what we want. It might seem less creative, but being specific helps V6 understand you better.
- For more realistic, straightforward, or less opinionated results, use —style raw.
- Using –-stylize with lower values (default is 100) improves how well the prompt is understood, while higher values (up to 1000) will enhance the look of the image.
Important to remember
- V6 (alpha) is in a trial phase and many new changes in this model are expected to happen.
- This V6 (alpha) model may not be available later. It will change a lot before its fully launched.
- Over the next few weeks, we can expect improvements in speed, image quality, coherence, following prompts, and text accuracy.
- V6 is slower and costs more than V5, but it will speed up as improvements are made.
- The relax mode is available (It uses about 1 GPU/min for each image and 2 GPU/min for each upscale).

Example 4: A multicoloured, huge soft toy teddy bear that has come to life, cycling through the busy streets of a metropolitan city. The teddy bear should appear animated and full of life, with its fur showing a vibrant mix of colours. It should be on a cycle, navigating a bustling urban street lined with tall buildings and filled with cars, pedestrians, and city life. The background should capture the essence of a lively metro environment, with the focus on the whimsical sight of the teddy bear joyfully cycling among the city’s hustle and bustle. –v 6.0 –style raw –chaos 20
Example 5: A captivating closeup of a mysterious traveller, their face partially obscured by a flowing orange scarf, their eyes filled with wisdom and adventure. –chaos 20 –v 6.0 –style raw
Example 6: An elf standing in Santa’s workshop, holding a “Hi” card in his hand. The elf should be dressed in traditional Christmas attire, with pointy ears and a cheerful expression. The “Hi”card held by the elf should be brightly coloured and festive, capturing the spirit of the holiday season. The background should be a lively scene of Santa’s factory, with other elves working, presents being prepared, and the overall joyous atmosphere of Christmas preparation. –chaos 10 –v 6.0 –style raw –stylize 110
Out of the above images generated, I have upscaled the 4th image. Let’s now try the new Upscale (Subtle) and Upscale (Creative) features on this image which increase resolution by 2x.
